Skating Hyde Park Sydney

Skating Hyde Park Sydney

Yesterday I was strolling through Hyde Park in Sydney Australia and noticed some street skaters skating a nice box that someone had put there in the middle of the park. I sat down near the box and watched as a group of skateboarders hit the box from various angles. Unfortunately a lot of them never made the landing so I only managed to shoot a couple of guys that made the landing. ... Continue

Newcastle Beach Skate Park

Newcastle Beach Skatepark, NSW Australia

This skatepark is located on the beach only 10 minutes walk from the heart of Newcastle city central. The location is ideal but the park is dated. It has a steel halfpipe and a number of small quarte pipes, some boxes and street skating objects. The base surface is very rough as is the ramps. It looks like it was recently painted but it seems a waste of time. They should have demolished the park and put a new one down in such prime location. They could do something like Bondi and make it a world class skatepark. ... Continue

Skateboarding as a Sport

Skateboarding is not an Olympic sport yet, but there is a powerful group of people trying to get it into the 2012 or 2016 Games. That will go a long way to giving it its rightful place as a real sport but, truth is, many skateboarders want to keep it out of the Olympics. The skateboard culture is about freedom and the Olympics come with rules and regulation. In an interview for “Time Magazine,” Tony Hawk said, “At this point, the Olympics needs skateboarding more than skateboarding needs the Olympics. They desperately need a cool factor and younger viewers. Skateboarding has all the makings of an Olympic sport and has more participants than many of them.” Yes, skateboarding is a sport. ... Wheels Choices for Your Skateboard

Wheels are one of the most important aspects of your complete skateboard. The wheels on any moving object are important, if you think about it. You wouldn’t put cheaply made, unreliable tires on your car. And if you do, you can’t expect it to perform at its highest level. And the same goes for skateboard decks–you can’t expect to get maximum performance out of a board with terrible wheels or the wrong kind of wheels. Well if you’re new to skateboarding and looking to build a complete board, choosing the right wheels might be a little overwhelming. In order to help you choose the perfect wheels for your skateboard decks, here’s a few tips: ... Continue

Shopping for a Skateboard Deck

One of the most important decisions you can make when building your skateboard is the deck. The deck not only supports all of your weight, but allows you to maneuver the board and do tricks. But for whatever reasons, many skateboarders don’t pay much attention to buying the correct deck for their skating style. ... Continue
